When you're ready, you'll have new, dry walls, and any waste water that seeps through the old basement walls will go to the drain channel and be pumped out. For use in most damp basements, I recommend Drylok Extreme waterproofing for basements and masonry, which is guaranteed to protect against water leaks, leaks and surface moisture. Even structurally sound basement walls can absorb water from the ground and transfer it to the interior of the basement, leaving the walls feeling damp. If your home is located at a high water table, some basement flooding may be inevitable during severe storms.
The most effective method for waterproofing a newly constructed basement wall is to seal both sides of the concrete with RadonSeal. When waterproofing basement walls with it, brush or roll the paint thick enough to fill in all the small holes in the surface and then allow it to dry completely before applying a second coat. Excess water in the basement not only limits the use of space, but can also cause a number of serious problems, from mold to weakening the foundation of the house. Another method to make the basement walls dry is to install a drainage channel under the floor inside the basement.
While builders take steps to waterproof basements during construction, over time a house can settle and create cracks in basement walls. If your basement's waterproofing system doesn't take into account capillary action or hydrostatic pressure (which comes from the ground) and rainwater or melted snow on the sides (and eventually below), you don't have a complete system. For basements that experienced high humidity and strong water penetration, opt for an industrial-grade product, such as LastiSeal brick and concrete sealant. When the basement is free of water, proceed to effectively inspect, fix and waterproof the basement walls.
